Monero Network
Why Monero, and why CPU mining still matters
Monero is one of the few major cryptocurrencies still built to be mined by ordinary CPUs. That single fact shapes both how 9Core operates and why the network is worth mining in the first place.
What is Monero
A cryptocurrency built for privacy by default
Monero (XMR) is a decentralized, privacy-preserving cryptocurrency. Privacy is not an optional feature bolted on top, it is built into how transactions work.
Ring signatures
Transactions are signed in a way that obscures which specific account actually authorized them, protecting sender identity.
Stealth addresses
A unique one-time address is generated for every transaction, so recipient addresses cannot be linked together on the public ledger.
Confidential transactions
Transaction amounts are hidden from public view, protecting wallet balances and transaction history from outside observers.
True fungibility
Every XMR is identical to every other XMR. There is no way to "taint" or blacklist a specific coin based on its history, unlike more traceable cryptocurrencies.
RandomX
The algorithm that keeps mining decentralized
RandomX is Monero's proof-of-work algorithm, purpose-built to run efficiently on general-purpose CPUs and inefficiently on ASICs. That design choice is deliberate: it prevents the kind of industrial hardware dominance that has concentrated mining power in other networks.
The result is a mining base spread across ordinary CPU hardware rather than a handful of specialized data centers, which is the foundation of Monero's network security.
Why CPU mining matters
Accessibility is a security property, not just a convenience
A network mined by a diverse, distributed set of participants is harder to attack or coerce than one controlled by a small number of large operators. RandomX's ASIC resistance keeps that diversity intact, which keeps CPU mining both viable and worth doing.
Why 9Core mines Monero
Privacy demand, decentralization, and hardware that fits
9Core mines Monero because the fundamentals line up. Monero has strong, durable demand for private, censorship-resistant transactions. RandomX rewards exactly the kind of Ryzen 9 hardware 9Core already runs. And solar power keeps the economics of running that hardware continuously in check.
Those three things, network demand, hardware fit, and energy cost, are the same three pillars behind 9Core's investment thesis, covered in more depth on the Investors page.
